In the Aistii (ancient Lithuanians) faith, the Fire Ritual is one of the most important and sacred to all Lithuanians. “Only the flame turns wisdom to the path of spirituality," wrote the prominent Lithuanian philosopher Vydūnas.
Gabija, the Goddess of the Sacred Fire and of Home (also known as Gabieta, Gabeta) was venerated in the form of sacred fires at grove-sanctuaries on hilltops or riverbanks, and served by priestesses called Vaidilutės.
